In hindsight, Mac’s mistake that led to the detriment of Blue Slide Park was that he didn’t try to expand his boundaries.

The walls began to close in on party-rapper Mac Miller after his studio debut. BSP was a necessary misstep for Mac, though.
Mac couldn’t capture the same youthful jubilance that he had on K.I.D.S with BSP and he was far from the mature craftsmanship that he would eventually run into later in his career. The half-baked lyrics really start getting on your nerves once you pass the thirty minute mark. I still can get some kicks out of “Party On Fifth Ave.” The seventh track, “Under the Weather” (a great Mac deep cut) is the last hurrah for the album and it’s pretty much downwards from there, bar “Missed Calls”. I will say that BSP is solid through the first twenty minutes. Then, he would’ve put Watching Movies out as his major label debut and it would have been all hunky dory for everyone. Imagine a world where Mac cut the rest of Blue Slide Park after track seven and released it as a promotional EP. That being said, I am not willing to make any sort of change to this final draft that I have below I am completely sure that the following 9 projects can be arranged in no other order. This is not the order I started with when making this list. Without further ado, I give to you a list of Mac Miller’s best work, ranked. I felt his passing like I would feel that of a loved one, which is something I didn’t think possible before September 7th. I’ve done more than my fair share of listening to, digging for, and researching about Mac Miller since then. I did, however, become completely and utterly obsessed with him during this past summer. I wasn’t even a rap fan until he was well-past Blue Slide Park. I have no definite metrics just ranking based on originality, impact, bump-ability, and growth all mushed into one.Īs for me, the self-proclaimed Mac Miller Stan, here is a confession: I haven’t been with Mac Miller throughout his whole career. I do not discriminate from mixtapes to studio albums, I’m just focusing in on his most well known, most available projects. I’ve taken to ranking what I call Mac Miller’s ‘mainstream’ projects.
From 2010’s beloved K.I.D.S mixtape to his final piece of work, 2018’s Swimming, Mac Miller won our hearts and friendship in his too-short-lived career. You still will never meet a motherfucker iller than the wide-eyed romantic, the multitalented musician, the best Jew in the rap game, Mr. Mac Miller, Larry Fisherman, Larry Lovestein, Eazy Mac, Malcom James McCormick.
